Fan Art Friday #82 – Leia, Catwoman, and More as Mermaids

Ariel made an awfully big deal about wanting to be part of our world in The Little Mermaid, but I think most of us on two legs long to dive under the sea. Even though I’m afraid of most everything that lives in the ocean, I’d try being a mermaid for a day. Maybe I’ve put some thought into what my mermaid outfit would look like. Maybe. Artist Ashley Taylor has considered what several of your favorite characters from pop culture would look like if they lived in the ocean and had fins, and we’re taking the plunge in this week’s Fan Art Friday to check out her work.

Exhibit A: The Force Awakens‘ Rey as a mermaid with a BB-8 buoy, a BB-uoy if you will.

I can barely handle how precious Rey mermaid is. Plus I like the idea of her living in a place that’s the absolute opposite of the dusty and dry Jakku.

Catwoman looks rad as a mermaid, but I confess I’m all about those cat-maids. Catfish? Mercats? Whatever you prefer to call them, I’m so in. And yeah, Ashley has more cats as mermaids in her portfolio because she’s the best.

Swim to the gallery below to see Mary Poppins, Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Leia, and the redhead from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride as mermaids. Then, you should follow Ashley Taylor on Instagram—there are more mermaids, some cute photos of Disney characters in teacups, and lots more terrific illustrations.

Which mer-character do you like best? Tell me in the comments.
