For the better part of two decades, animated series have dominated Fox’s Sunday night lineup. And while there have been a few crossovers between the shows before, there’s never been anything quite like this. Via Gamespot, Fox Digital Entertainment and Kongregate have announced Animation Throwdown: The Quest for Cards, a new mobile game that features characters from Family Guy, Futurama, American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, and even King of the Hill.
As the full title implies, Animation Throwdown is a collectible card game in the same vein as Hearthstone. Essentially, players will be able to build a deck of with their favorite Fox animated characters and pit them against other players in a battle to the finish.
We have to admit that it’s a little disappointing that The Simpsons weren’t included in this game, since that was the show that opened the doors for Futurama, Family Guy, and so many others. EA already has a Simpsons mobile game called The Simpsons: Tapped Out, which may prevent Homer, Marge, and the rest of Springfield’s famous residents from joining Animation Throwdown in the future. But we can dream, damn it! And as long as we’re dreaming, it would be very cool to see these characters eventually come together in a more traditional open world platform game that revisits the classic settings of each show.
Animation Throwdown will be released in the third quarter of 2016 for iOS and Android devices, before heading to other platforms at a currently unannounced time.
