The future is a dark place in the DC Universe, especially within the pages of The New 52: Futures End. Last issue we saw Batman going toe to toe with Batman Beyond in a slugfest for the ages. Now Tim Drake, who is using the alias Cal Corcoran, and Ronnie Raymond are racing against time to rescue Madison Payne from the clutches of Dr. Yamazake, who is using her as a pawn in a scheme to take revenge on Madison’s father. Why go after an innocent bystander? It seems to be par for the course for mad scientists, but evidently Madison’s father Maxwell Payne conspired with the enemy and Yamazake’s wife was killed during the war, which makes him indirectly responsible for her death. As you can see, grief can cloud the judgement of even the sharpest minds. Now, in The New 52: Futures End #29, it’s a race against time to save Madison and it’ll take every aspect of Firestorm to save the day.
The new issue, written by Keith Giffen, Dan Jurgens, Jeff Lemire, and Brian Azzarello, and illustrated by Patrick Zircher, drops this Wednesday, but first we have an exclusive preview for you courtesy of DC Comics.
Here’s the official synopsis: “The meaning of Firestorm – and heroism – will change for everyone whose lives have been touched by the matrix in this special issue devoted to Jason, Ronnie, Madison and Tim’s fight for survival against a man pushed to the edge by grief.”
The New 52: Future’s End #29 is available on Wednesday, November 19.
