We’ve only got two weeks left until the release of DC Comics’ ostensibly gears-shifting picture Suicide Squad, though you can bet those two weeks will be filled to the brim with new looks at the antihero collective, with especial focus no doubt on top-profile players Joker and Harley Quinn.
This latest clip from the film takes a look at the menace of the clown-faced psychopath, played both on and off screen, as the backstage stories inform us, by Jared Leto. Here, we see Leto’s Joker screw with—that is to say, terrify with the promise of psychological and physical torture—an Arkham Asylum guard played by Ike Barinholtz (whom you’ll most likely recognize from Neighbors or The Mindy Project).
It’s no surprise that Joker wouldn’t exactly hit it off with the local law enforcement, but we actually get the hint that he’s not going to be especially well-liked by his own troupe. In the clip, he prompts a tirade of ire from Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag, a field agent assigned to work with the so-called Suicide Squad in their high-grade rescue mission.
It isn’t entirely clear just yet how the other nogoodniks will take to the all-smiles loon, though if David Ayer’s film is faithful to the source material, he’ll at least have a fan in Harley Quinn.
While the broader reputations of characters like Joker and Harley Quinn make them natural centerpieces for Suicide Squad’s swath of promotional material, I’m getting ever the more curious about the other members on the team, and am perhaps even more excited to find out how they’ll translate to film than I am to see Leto and Margo Robbie bring their nut-bag characters to life. Then again, we’re talking about pyrokinetics and lizard men, so how can you blame me for being intrigued?
Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5. Which member of the team are you most looking forward to seeing on the big screen? Let us know!
