For an admittedly dumb movie, the marketing for Dumb and Dumber To is kind of clever. The long-discussed and finally happening sequel from the Farrelly brothers just got a pair of posters this week sending up another recent release, Luc Besson’s sci-fi thriller Lucy.
The pair of images, released via stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels’ Twitter feeds, asks what would happen if a human used only 1% of their brains. Sure, the science behind Lucy is a little, um, iffy, but that tagline is great, right?
Dumb and Dumber To reunites leads Harry and Lloyd for the first time in almost 20 years since the first film hit screens back in 1995. That, by the way, is ignoring the short-lived animated series and the 2003 prequel with Eric Christian Olsen and Derek Richardson standing in for Carrey and Daniels, and maybe the best Bob Saget cameo imaginable.
The sequel sees Harry and Lloyd on the road as rogue organ hunters: well, not quite. But they need a new kidney and end up on the highways and biways of American in search of their long-lost children. Kathleen Turner and Rob Riggle co-star.
This is the Farrelly’s first film since 2012’s The Three Stooges and will hopefully be a return to form for the pair of wonderful weirdos who gave us Kingpin. The brothers had been talking the project up for years, but the rising profile of stars Carrey and Daniels seemed to make the prospect of a sequel out of reach.
So who wore the look better? ScarJo or Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey? Let us know in the comments section.
Dumb and Dumber To will be in theaters November 14.
