Comedy Central’s hit series Drunk History is taking on the untold story of the Wright Brothers (make that the Wright Siblings) in tonight’s episode, featuring The Office‘s Jenna Fischer and Parenthood‘s Jason Ritter. Drunk History creator/star Derek Waters has your official first look at the hilarious-yet-informative episode right here at Nerdist.
“Jason’s been on the show before, but I haven’t worked with Jenna since we met 15 years ago,” Waters tells Nerdist. “We were doing a play where we instantly became friends, but this is the first time we’d worked together since that play, not to brag. The episode really embodies the goal of the show, which is to take well-known people and expose the hidden history that nobody has ever heard before.
When it came to shooting this particular segment, narrated by Lauren Lapkus (her drink of choice was vodka soda, in case you were wondering), it was “sincerely the most fun acting that I’ve ever had,” according to Waters. “I rarely get to be a character that’s in more than one or two scenes,” he says. “Being able to play with Jason and Jenna was great because that’s the goal of the show: to feel like we’re making movies in the backyard with our friends. Also, dancing to ‘The White Stuff’ by Weird Al with Jason. Everybody needs to see the show Goliath on Amazon that Jason is in, it is really, really good.”
Another episode coming up later this season is going to be a departure from the usual structure of the show, when Lin Manuel-Miranda narrates an entire episode about Alexander Hamilton. “Lin-Manuel was a dream to work with,” Waters says. “There are a lot of ‘deleted scenes’ from the musical [Hamilton] that Lin wasn’t able to include, so it’ll be neat for fans of Hamilton to see scenes that weren’t in the play.”
Drunk History airs Tuesdays at 10:30 p.m. on Comedy Central.
