Earlier this month, Viz Media announced the release of Akira Toriyama’s manga Dragon Ball: Frieza Arc volume 1 in full color on May 3, 2016. And naturally, the addition of beautiful, multi-color goodness has us beyond excited for what’s to come.
The story takes place after Goku’s epic battle with Prince Vegeta, when Goku and friends must capture the wish-granting Dragon Balls in order to resurrect their fallen angels. The journey will take them to planet Namek—where famed DBZ villain, Frieza, is wreaking havoc on the Namekians. With Frieza is hell-bent on slaughtering the Namekians to fulfill his destiny and achieve immortality, will Goku and friends be able to defeat Frieza and his minions?
Author and artist Akira Toriyama burst on to the manga scene in the 1980s and is known for his colorful and playful storytelling. His first hit with fans was the manga Dr. Slump, created four years before he moved on to the Dragon Ball series. Dragon Ball ran in the weekly Japanese publication, Shueisha’s Shonen Jump magazine from 1984-1985. Soon after, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z were published in the United States to introduce American audiences to the Dragon Ball saga. Some of Toriyama’s other manga works include Sand Land, Cowa!, Kajika and Neko Majin.
The Dragon Ball: Frieza Arc (full-color) is rated A, for all ages. The first volume will be available in print and in digital format via VizManga.com and the Viz Manga app on May 3, 2016. The manga will also be available on comixology, google play and the kindle.
The Freiza Arc will be a five-volume series and will be published in quarterly in full-color. Are you excited? Let us know in the comments below
