The JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Movie is Back in the Cards!

After spending several years trapped in development hell, the Justice League Dark movie is finally going toward the light with a new director: Doug Liman!

Variety broke the news that Liman is slated to take over the director’s chair on Justice League Dark after Guillermo del Toro attempted to bring DC’s magic-based characters to the big screen. Del Toro will remain with Justice League Dark as a producer. The Justice League Dark comic was launched in 2011, and it brought together several fan-favorites including John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing, Shade the Changing Man, Black Orchid, and Madame Xanadu. Together, those heroes and antiheroes faced the magical threats that even the Justice League couldn’t withstand alone.

While the Justice League Dark comic isn’t currently being published, DC and Warner Bros. recently announced an animated movie that will be released this fall. Constantine and Swamp Thing were previously featured in their own movies as well as their own solo TV shows. Many of the other JLD characters, including Zatanna, have never appeared on the big screen before.

There’s currently no release date or production schedule for Justice League Dark, but the DC Extended Universe has already hinted at its magical underworld in Suicide Squad. In fact, the Enchantress was the initial threat in the first Justice League Dark comic book storyline, which could potentially be a plot point in the DCEU as well.

Liman’s previous films include one of our favorite sci-fi films, Edge of Tomorrow in addition to Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Swingers, Jumper, and Go. You may recall that Liman was also attached to helm the Gambit feature film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Liman’s new Justice League Dark gig means that Gambit needs to find a new director once again.

Are you excited about Justice League Dark? Who would you cast in the movie? And who should direct Gambit now? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
