One of the best things about being a Doctor Who fan—especially the last several years here in North America—is being able to snuggle in on a fine Christmas Day and watch a brand new episode of the series with your whole family. Or, if you’re me, you sit in your mom’s guest room and watch the special on your laptop because you will not be deterred by family get-togethers! But you can add a new way to watch the 2016 Doctor Who Christmas Special to your options roster, because they’ll be screening at cinemas nationwide through Fathom Events on Tuesday, December 27, and Thursday, December 29 at 7:00pm local time.
The special, entitled “The Return of Doctor Mysterio”—which sees the Doctor team up with a reporter (Charity Wakefield) and a superhero (Justin Chatwin) to fight an alien menace, with Matt Lucas‘ Nadole in tow—will be shown in its full 60-minute glory at the Fathom Event screening and will be followed by two exclusive bonus features: “A New Kind of Superhero,” which takes a look at the series’ unique take on the superhero genre; and a special Christmas Doctor Who Extra, which will go inside the making of the special, with appearances by Peter Capaldi, Matt Lucas, and showrunner Steven Moffat.
“The Return of Doctor Mysterio” will be in 400 cinemas nationwide through Fathom Events. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, November 18, but guess what! Since you’re a loyal Nerdist reader, you can buy tickets right this second by clicking on this link. That’s your gateway to seeing the Doctor, a superhero, a weird guy named Nardole, and a Christmastime-worth of timey-wimey shenanigans on the big screen.
