Join our pals at 826LA on October 18th for a dance-a-thon in honor of their 10th anniversary! 826LA has been helping kids become better readers and writers in Los Angeles for ten years, and that is definitely cause to celebrate. The event will be hosted by Thrilling Adventure Hour‘s own Marc Evan Jackson and will feature Moby as a special guest. Oh yes. And there’s a theme: Time Warp. Given the robots on the website, we are confident the night will be full of fun and frivolity.
In case you’re not familiar with 826 LA (or NYC or Boston or Seattle), the non-profit organization is dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their writing skills. They also work closely with teachers to help them inspire their students. Aside from the general awesomeness of spreading literacy, 826 knows that kids love creativity, so their tutoring centers are themed around playful ideas like the Super Hero Supply Store in Brooklyn and the Mar Vista Time Travel Mart in Los Angeles. Because who doesn’t like a little whimsy with their tutoring?
The benefit dance party will be at The Unique Space on E. 6th Street in Los Angeles on October 16th at 9pm (registration at 8pm), and will feature DJ sets from Lee Robinson of DubLab, Neil Schield of Origami Vinyl, Mukta Mohan of KXLU, Chris Ziegler of LA Record, and Clifton Weaver (aka DJ Soft Touch) of Funky Sole. We’re hearing that there is serious encouragement for costumes of the time travel variety, and there may even be a prize. Each dancer is required to raise or donate $100 to qualify for entry. The only other thing you have to do is dance for as long as you possibly can or 3 hours with a 30 minute break – whichever comes first.
If you’re in LA, we hope that you’ll consider taking part. 826LA does great work for the kids of Los Angeles, and we love supporting a good cause!
Online registration is available here.
