Disney is Relaunching BUG JUICE!

If you’ve ever been to summer camp and had deeply angry thoughts about being forced to swim in a cold and murky lake, then you can relate to at least one part of Bug Juice. The Disney Channel show—the first unscripted series/reality show for the network—aired from 1998-2001 and followed youths ages 10-12 at summer camp. And guess what? Bug Juice is coming back!

We heard the news of the relaunch from Variety. Disney Channel made the announcement on Cosmopolitan and shared they’ll be going back to where it all began, Camp Waziyatah in Maine. Can you believe it’s been almost 20 years ago? Even with the math right in front of me, I have a hard time wrapping my head around it. The kids featured in the true life adventures of summer camp in the original run are adults now.Anyway, the return of Bug Juice will feature many of the same crew members from the original series and the creative team from Evolution Media—they were also there way back when. Filming is already well underway and will wrap in mid-August. No word yet on when the return will premiere, but hopefully the series, along with a snazzy update on the theme song, will be on our TVs soon.

The preteens of Bug Juice wrestled with all sorts of relatable issues from unreturned crushes, public performance woes, gossip, and the dumb swim check. I’m curious to see what advances of technology mean for the kids. Are they allowed to bring their devices to summer camp? Will the show be about watching them text each other or throwing their phones in the lake? Drop to the comments and tell us about what you hope
