Warning: spoilers for season nine of Supernatural are ahead.
Dean Winchester has gone through a game-changing transformation, and it looks like he’s going to be colder and crazier than ever in season 10 of Supernatural. The CW has released the first promo for what they’re calling “The Year of the Deanmon” (yeah, I’m not kidding), and Demon Dean (Jensen Ackles) is shaking things up. He presumably became a demon because Crowley (Mark Sheppard) pulled all the right strings into place, and now Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Castiel (Misha Collins) are left to pick up the pieces and do their best to bring back Dean’s humanity. They might have to do it against Dean’s will.
This is fresh territory for the Winchester brothers, which is impressive considering the number of years they’ve spent on the road hunting monsters. Dean’s never been what you’d call inhibited, but now he’s letting it all hang out. Crowley wants Dean to help him create a “perfect hell,” but from what we see in this tease, Dean’s only concerned with partying. He appears to be drinking even more than usual, visiting strip clubs, beating people up, and taking to the microphone for karaoke night:
Ackles has always handled Dean’s humorous moments and quips well, so I’m excited to see him play a different version of the character. We’re in for a ride. Additionally, the plot has the potential to push the Winchesters out of their lying and arguing rut. Demon Dean couldn’t have entered the picture at a better time.
Season 10 of Supernatural premieres on Tuesday, October 7.
