At long last, we’ve got an idea of just how badass our Hawkman and Hawkgirl will likely be in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, the upcoming spinoff from The Flash and Arrow. Ciara Renée was one of the first cast members to join, even making a cameo in the first season finale of The Flash as Kendra Saunders. Falk Hentschel was a late addition to the cast as Hawkman—a.k.a. Carter Hall—but both of the Hawks will appear together on Legends of Tomorrow, as evidenced from the first picture of the duo in costume that was released on Friday.
Although their costumes are missing their wings in this picture, they are very striking and seem similar to some of Tim Truman’s classic designs from Hawkworld. Although in this TV series, the Hawks are not from the planet Thanagar. Instead, Kendra Hall is said to be the latest reincarnation of an ancient warrior whose persona emerges from her body with wings that grow out of her back. Presumably Carter Hall’s powers work the same way on this show.
It’s cool to know that the designs for Hawkman and Hawkgirl look good on camera. Even when the design is closer to the comic book costumes it doesn’t necessarily play well on screen. Case in point, Hawkman’s last big media blast from 1997:
We’re just going to pretend that didn’t happen.
Joining Renée and Drameh on Legends of Tomorrow are Victor Garber as Professor Martin Stein, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The Atom, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/White Canary, Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heatwave, and Wentworth Miller as Leonard Snart/Captain Cold.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will debut at midseason on The CW.
