David Schwimmer and James Corden Have the Whitest Rap Battle Ever

You know how you’ve always wanted to see an insult-fueled rap battle from a British talk show host and a guy who made the word “pivot” funny in the late-’90s? Well that’s the kind of hot take you’re getting when you tune into The Late Late Show with James Corden. On a a massive battle arena set, Corden and a celebrity guest engage in a rap royale in which they trade pre-arranged barbs, written by a team of talented comedy professionals, as though the disses are made up on the fly/totally not read off a card. Today’s subject: David Schwimmer.

The conceit that Corden and Schwimmer are mad at each other is secondary to the idea that spitting rhymes is the answer to said squabble. Perhaps Vladimir Putin and/or Kim Jong Un should square off against President Obama while he’s still in office. Just an idea. At any rate, most of the raps about Schwimmer are about how he’s irrelevant since Friends and managed to get barbs in about him doing a voice in the Madagascar movies and playing the patriarch of the Kardashian family in The People vs. OJ Simpson, while the put-downs flung at Corden were mostly about how he’s a nobody, overweight and not very tall, and…English I guess.

While the premise is contrived, I was pretty impressed by Schwimmer’s skills, and that those skills seem to pay the bills. But both he and Corden were sideswiped by the inexplicable rap powerhouse known as Rebel Wilson who showed up to slap both of them down. She “owned” them, to use the parlance of the time, but what Rebel Wilson could possibly have against David Schwimmer and James Corden is anyone’s guess.
