Just when you thought the internet couldn’t get any better today, a music video for the forthcoming ’80s-action-inspired film Kung Fury gets released, and it is pretty much the best thing we’ve ever seen. Why? The creators of the highly anticipated Kickstarter funded project got DAVID HASSELHOFF to perform the film’s theme song “True Survivor”. I repeat, David freaking Hasselhoff!
I mean, the king of ’80s mullets and serious action-packed police work was the only option for the over-the-top film’s main theme, right? In the above video, you’ll see the the Hoff kicking some serious butt. The music video features Tron-like graphics, impossible physics, kung fu, dinosaurs, and of course, and an overwhelming amount of over-the-top action. There is so much nostalgic goodness, you guys!
This is indeed a big score for a fan funded project. On his involvement Hasselhoff stated, “The 80s was about fun, action, and heroes. Kung Fury has it all! I’m honored to be involved with [director] David Sandberg, an up-and-coming force of nature in the animation digital entertainment world. The song is perfect for me as I really am, in real life, a True Survivor.” That you are Mr. Hasselhoff. That you are.
If you’re unfamiliar with the film, Kung Fury is a Kickstarter funded film set to debut May 28 on YouTube. The project’s site describes it as “a visually spectacular action comedy that has its foundation in 80s cop movies.” As of this writing, over 17,713 people have backed Kung Fury pledging $630,019 in total to bring creator David Sandberg’s brainchild to life. The project has surpassed its goal several times, making it the second biggest Kickstarter film of all time.
