This years marks the 40th anniversary of the science fiction powerhouse 2000 AD. To celebrate, publisher Rebellion is pulling out the big guns with an oversized special that includes everything from brand new Judge Dredd tales courtesy of John Wagner to new stories and art from the likes of Lauren Beukes and Dale Halvorsen, Jock, Dave Gibbons, Bryan Talbot, Al Ewing, Henry Flint, Pat Mills, Carlos Ezquerra, and more.
Nerdist is super stoked to be premiering a piece from the one and only David Aja (The Immortal Iron Fist and Hawkeye), who is taking his first crack at the iconic action hero Judge Dredd. You can peep the beautiful, stark black and white image below. It is, hands down, one of the coolest drawings of Dredd we have ever seen and it absolutely deserves the poster treatment. We want this thing on our wall. We want to live with it and have it be the centerpiece of our living room. Aja is a freaking master and this piece is a testament to that.
Over its 40 years of publication, 2000 AD has published work from creators like Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrison, Brian Bolland, Garth Ennis and Mike McMahon. The comic magazine also gave birth to popular characters like Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper, and served as the home for Grant Morrison and Steve Yeowell’s Zenith. 2000 AD continues to push boundaries and publish new talent, something unusual in today’s market.
The 48-page 40th anniversary special will also include Zombo by Al Ewing and Henry Flint, Devil May Care by Robbie Morrison and Simon Fraser, and Red Branch by Pat Mills and Simon Davis. Longtime 2000 AD readers know that every issue is packed full of awesome stuff and this issue looks to be no different. Hell, even if you’ve never read this awesome magazine before, now would be a great time to jump in.
The 2000 AD 40th Anniversary Special will be published in print and digital on 22nd February.
