Damon Albarn Previews Score from ALICE IN WONDERLAND Musical

A day after teasing new Gorillaz music in a series of Instagram posts, Damon Albarn has previewed the recorded score from Songs From Wonder.land, his modern theatrical adaptation of Alice In Wonderland that is currently showing in London.

In either clip we see intimate studio sessions featuring the musicians and voices behind the actual show. Albarn’s unmistakable voice shines through the clip of “In Clover” while we see close ups of instruments and shots of Albarn directing an entire crew of musicians. This is the image that most people have of the of studio work behind Gorillaz, so this only serves to reiterate the idea that Damon Albarn is a performance and studio whiz, regardless of format or medium.

The second clip features Hal Fowler, the voice of the Cheshire Cat, singing the tune “Fabulous,” while violinists, saxophonists, and pianists add a decidedly whimsical fabric to the song. Much like the previous clip, we get very artsy insight into Albarn’s activities inside the studio and from behind the glowing boards in the control room.

For those of us who can’t see this musical live from across the pond, Songs From Wonder.land will be available for digital download on April 19, with CD and vinyl releases following on April 22 and 29 respectively. You can preorder the release here.
