The Dawn of Justice has come and gone and the DC Extended Universe is moving forward from Batman v Superman. Last month, there were a few rumors that Ezra Miller’s turn in The Flash wouldn’t be a solo adventure after all. Instead, the Flash would be joined by Ray Fisher’s Cyborg. And now, producer Deborah Snyder has apparently confirmed that rumor.
In a new interview with Forbes, Snyder said, “When we get to the Flash movie, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher — who plays Cyborg — are kind of our youngest characters, and they have a really nice camaraderie with each other. Ezra is super funny, so the tone of that film will be very different than the rest of them.”
Within DC’s comic book universe, the Flash and Cyborg do have a history together… it’s just not the Barry Allen Flash. Instead, it was Barry’s sidekick, Wally West (a.k.a. Kid Flash) who joined the Teen Titans alongside Cyborg, Robin, Raven, Starfire, and others. Since the start of DC’s New 52, the Barry Allen Flash and Cyborg have been teammates on the Justice League. However, considering Snyder’s remarks, it seems likely that the Flash film will draw upon some aspects of the Wally West’s friendship with Cyborg.
There has also been talk that Cyborg’s planned solo movie in 2020 may morph into a Titans film. If that’s the case, bringing Cyborg and the Flash together in The Flash movie could potentially lead right into that story and introduce their other teammates as well. That’s speculation at this point, but the DC Extended Universe has already shown a tendency towards featuring numerous characters in each movie.
The Flash will race into theaters on March 16, 2018.
