Well, we’re just two days away from Course of the Force, the lightsaber relay from Santa Monica to San Diego to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation. To prepare, Chris Hardwick visited Industrial Light and Magic, where he got a lesson in why not to trust Ewoks, then got a ride from a familiar sort-of-face, who didn’t take kindly to some of the stuff Chris said. And there’s another celebrity cameo, leading to more Hardwick humiliation before he turns the tables. Watch:
Apparently, there’s a short-cut from the Central Valley to Santa Monica. Gotta find out about that.
There’s a lot more about Course of the Force to tell you. How about Spike TV All Access Weekly‘s Katie Linendoll talking about her plans to run in the event in an R2-D2 costume, replete with R2 shoes?
Speaking of shoes, at the “Conival” fairs on Saturday at Santa Monica Pier (10 am-3 pm Pacific) and Sunday at Huntington Beach Pier (4-9p), there’s going to be a — and, here, I’ll refrain from Ed Sullivan jokes because, um, old — really big shoe there. Really big. How big? It’s the 20-foot long, 11-foot tall shoe used in the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movies, brought to the event by Shoebacca.com, the online retailer of cool active-lifestyle shoes and accessories. And there, signing autographed pictures for donations to Make-a-Wish will be, fittingly, Peter Mayhew, Chewbacca himself. They’ll also be doing a “Galactic Giveaway” sweepstakes from Saturday through August 31st online at shoebacca.com, with a grand prize of a full year’s supply of shoes from Shoebacca.com, a framed and autographed print of Peter Mayhew, and Shoebacca stuff for your whole family.
More? KNBC-TV in Los Angeles did a report on the Course on Today in L.A., with Mekhalo Medina interviewing Ashley Eckstein about it:
And the Huntington Beach Independent did a nice story on the Course in general and Jabba’s sail barge, a replica of which is the lead vehicle for the race and will carry Ashley, Chris, and Alison Haislip as they cover the race for the Nerdist Channel and StarWars.com, and you can read that piece by clicking here.
So… have you signed up yet? Go to courseoftheforce.com for all the details. And, whether you run or not, come on out to the Conivals, beginning with the kickoff on Saturday in Santa Monica; the schedule information’s all here.
