Fans of the 2013 summer SyFy hit Sharknado can breathe a sigh of relief – both Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will return for the sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two will reprise their roles in Sharknado 2: The Second One. Scheduled to debut this July, the sequel will take place about one year after the original installment made waves (see what I did there?) on cable and social media. This time set in New York City, the follow up will reunite Ziering and Reid with original Sharknado writer Thunder Levin and director Anthony Ferrante.
THR describes the plot of The Second One as: “In Sharknado 2, a freak weather system turns deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a ‘sharknado’ on the population and its most iconic sites, with Fin and April the only ones able to save the city.”
Asylum COO Paul Bales said, “Can lightning strike twice? I don’t know, but it’s a scientific fact that you’re more likely to be killed by lightning than by a shark. This film will have lightning and sharks, so that’s got to count for something.”
No other casting announcements have been made. Sharknado 2: The Second One will air on SyFy this summer.
