Comic-Con: “Doctor Who”

comiccondoctorwhoscreensBBC America’s Doctor Who panel celebrating the show’s 50th anniversary featured Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman, Stephen Moffat, producer Marcus Wilson, writer/producer Mark Gatiss, and David Bradley, set to play William Hartnell, the First Doctor, in the anniversary special, “An Adventure in Space and Time.” Self-professed Doctor Who superfan Craig Ferguson moderated the Hall H panel, which included a trailer for the special and an exclusive Comic-Con-only trailer for the 50th anniversary, which showed the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors together, with David Tennant’s Doctor criticizing Smith’s “redecorating” the TARDIS.

The discussion ranged from Smith’s departure, Smith comparing his Doctor to David Tennant’s (the latter a “swashbuckler” with the ladies, his being “flummoxed” by women — Coleman called him “asexual”), the possibility of shooting again in America, Moffat’s preferences regarding historical themes (he has others write those episodes so he doesn’t have to do the research), and Moffat’s standards for casting the Doctor (“he’s of the moment right now” and is of all ages at the same time). Moffat said that the new Doctor has not yet been cast, spurning Ferguson’s prompting that there might be news to announce.
