Captain America: Civil War just became the second most important upcoming head-to-head between two formerly ideologically aligned Marvel heroes. Set aside your meticulously devised pros and cons lists for Teams Cap and Tony, and divert all attention to this Thursday’s much more pressing super-powered battle: MCU fixtures Clark Gregg and Hayley Atwell will face off on LL Cool J’s Lip Sync Battle.
This will not be the first time that Gregg, known in the Marvel Universe as the unkillable Agent Phil Coulson, will have tested his faux-musical proficiency against Agent Carter‘s titular heroine Atwell. The central cast members of the World War II-era secret agent series Dubsmashed the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. headliners to bits back at last year’s Comic-Con, solidifying the long held theory that the art of servitude does indeed date back to at least the 1940s.
But this time around, Atwell will no doubt be getting a run for her money. This quick glimpse at Gregg’s choice of performance on the upcoming episode reveals that he’s taking this battle as seriously as a Chitauri invasion. As you can see in the video, Gregg has opted to sing Britney Spears’ “Toxic”… and in full flight attendant garb, reminiscent of the song’s 2003 music video, no less. Gregg more than does justice to Spears’ famed anti-EPA protest song, meaning Atwell will really have to up the ante for this forthcoming Civil War.
