Water parks are the true common ground that transcend all boundaries, real or imagined, because who doesn’t love rocketing down a water slide? It’s even enough to put a smile on a group of goth kids’ faces, as seen in CHVRCHES’ new video for “Empty Threat,” a track from their fantastic 2015 record Every Open Eye.
After stocking up on booze courtesy of a fake ID–which we don’t encourage, kids!–the crew hits the road, so enamored by darkness that even their pine tree hanging air freshener is Black Ice scented. They head to Ft. Lauderdale to take in the aquatic wonders of a water park, because no matter how grim your outlook, it takes a concerted effort to not have fun at one. “Empty Threat” is probably the poppiest track on the album, so a water park is a perfect visual companion for the tune.
All the water is probably necessary, because CHVRCHES has been on fire recently. They’re touring in support of the album, and were recently joined on stage by Paramore’s Hayley Williams. Singer Lauren Mayberry joined The National on stage for a rousing rendition of “I Need My Girl.” The band turned in a killer cover of the Justin Bieber smash “What Do You Mean?”
Perhaps most importantly, the band–sans Mayberry–sat down and played video games with us not too long ago.
