Ooga chaka! Ooga chaka! Star-Lord aka Chris Pratt is set to host the 40th season premiere of Saturday Night Live with Ariana Grande performing as the musical guest. The second episode will be hosted by former cast member Sarah Silverman with musical guest Maroon 5.
In addition to being a part of the NBC family for years playing Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation, Pratt has been everywhere this year, voicing Emmet in The LEGO Movie and, of course, leading the cast of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The James Gunn directed summer blockbuster has officially become the biggest movie of the summer and Pratt isn’t showing any signs of slowing down with the final season of Parks and Recreation and Jurassic World coming up soon.
While the season premiere will be filled with newbies, the second episode will be filled with old favorites. Sarah Silverman was a cast member on SNL in the 1993-94 season and Maroon 5 will be making their fifth appearance on the show to promote their fifth album V. High five!
The 39th season of SNL was a transitional one, to say the least. This summer four cast members parted ways with the comedy institution, some more amicably than others, and the show found itself facing criticism for lack of diversity, prompting the hiring of talented newcomer Sasheer Zamata. The show also lost Seth Meyers when he left to host Late Night. We spoke with SNL veteran Taran Killam earlier this summer about the challenges facing SNL last season and the actor was more than confident that the show had found its footing again and that the 40th year would be one of the strongest.
Saturday Night Live kicks off its 40th season on Saturday, September 29 on NBC.
