You’re into video games, right? And you like awards shows, too, huh? Assuming you answered yes to both (and why wouldn’t you?), here’s some news we’re excited about. You know about that Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences 16th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards show in Las Vegas honoring the year’s top video games, the one that’s part of the 2013 D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit at which Gabe Newell is being honored and to which Valve and Nerdist are giving away a trip to attend? Guess who’s been announced as the host of the awards show?
Okay, that’s an easy one. Of COURSE our own Fearless Leader, Chris Hardwick, is the host of the show. He’s the best at it (and I’m not just saying that because I work for him, although I do… do work for him, that is. What?), so why not? The ceremony is going to take place on Thursday, February 7th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Las Vegas. There are 63 games nominated, covering all kinds of games from console to web and mobile, with Journey garnering 11 nominations, including Game of the Year, for which it’s competing with Borderlands 2, Far Cry 3, The Walking Dead, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. So, yeah, the big guns are in the running.
Chris always gives good press release quotes, and this time is no exception. He said, “The D.I.C.E. Awards are VERY important to me. I have been playing video games since there were video games. I hope there is some type of Dovahkiin Shout that will make sure I don’t mess this up. I will find one! If not, I’ll just look like a psychotic, screaming a**hole leading up to the Awards.”
If you can make it to the show, you can buy tickets at dicesummit.org. If you can’t, you’ll be able to watch the show live, courtesy streaming brought to you by the AIAS and its media partner Variety, on Machinima February 7th at 7:30pm PT / 10:30pm ET.
