As we approach the May 2nd release of Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony has been quickly ramping up its marketing campaign. With a fantastic Super Bowl spot and lengthy but action-packed trailer, it looks like this movie is going to be nuts. And now Sony has offered up two brand new featurettes for audiences to sink their teeth into.
The second is your generic “this movie has the best practical effects ever” behind-the-scenes video, though the action does look stellar. The first, however, that one really gets into the dynamics of where our heroes stand at the start of this sequel. The idea that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is actually going to take the time to ask the question of whether Peter and Gwen can work despite the wishes of Gwen’s father — that matters, and perhaps it will even lead to the ultimate canon fate of Gwen Stacy.
It’s also nice to finally be seeming some actual footage of Paul Giamatti as Russian mobster Aleksei Sytsevich, a/k/a Rhino. While much of the marketing has focused on Jamie Foxx’s Electro, it’s easy to forget this Spidey flick is all about a world of villains, so it’s nice to finally be seeing some of them.
