As of Game of Thrones‘ sixth season finale, Cersei Lannister sits on the Iron Throne as Queen of the Andals and the First Men, and ruler of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. But with Daenerys Targaryen finally crossing the Narrow Sea and Jon Snow pulling the North together, it’s not gonna be easy for Cersei to hold on to her newfound power…or is it? A new report suggests that the tide may be shifting in Cersei’s favor, and today’s Nerdist News is examining the signs and portents.
Needless to say, there are potentially massive spoilers (and heaps of speculation) ahead for Game of Thrones’ seventh season. You’ve been warned!
Game of Thrones fan site Watchers on the Wall is reporting that Cersei may form a new alliance with Euron Greyjoy next year, the current ruler of the Iron Islands after a Kingsmoot-gone-crazy. Euron usurped Yara Greyjoy’s birthright with a promise marry Daenerys in exchange for using the Ironborn fleet to aide her armies in Westeros. Yara and Theon beat Euron to the punch and made their own alliance with Daenerys, but does anyone really see him meekly accepting defeat? Uncle Euron could hold the key to defeating everyone—and a team up with Cersei may be his most expedient move.
Nerdist News host and Master of Whispers, Jessica Chobot has the scoop on why a Euron and Cersei alliance could finish off several fan-favorite characters (including Cersei herself)! The show hasn’t yet established whether Euron has the Dragonbinder Horn, but if he does, Daenerys’ dragons may be forced to follow his lead. In the worst possible scenario, Euron’s actions could even trigger a cataclysmic event that would make the Doom of Valyria look tame. And it’s a move we wouldn’t put past George R.R. Martin—the man practically lives to put his characters through Hell, and this would be a grand way to keep that tradition going.
