This past weekend’s box office belonged to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, which pulled in over $101 million in its first three days. While that is considered a success by just about any standard, that is still about $20 million short of the pervious film’s opening box office. There are several reason this may have happened, the most glaring being that it is the second half of the final chapter, specifically geared for those who have kept up with the series. Since it’s usually difficult to come in cold for the final chapter of a series, the folks at Mashable have created a short little video to get you prepped for the film, even if you haven’t seen the rest of the movies.
The video, part of a series called TL;DW, or Too Long; Didn’t Watch, is both informative and humorous in its delivery. The series is known for being more comedic than informative, but it still gives the basic details needed to understand the Hunger Games movies. The hosts, Max and Bob, give a brief set of bullet points about each of the three films, contemplate the logistics of a world that includes gladiatorial battle as televised entertainment, and even offer a rather poignant observation about the actual Hunger Games and their relation to social media. So, you even get a little bit of philosophy for good measure.
Take a look at the video above if you need a quick refresher on this wildly popular series, or if you want to have a laugh at Mashable’s interpretation of it. Be sure to also check out other videos in the TL;DW series including recaps of Inception, Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones.
Let us know what you thought of the video, and whether or not you saw the final Hunger Games in theaters yet.
