Carl Sagan’s Autotune Cosmos

I am IN LOVE with this video. It is SUPERFUCKINGRADICALMAZING. Hauntingly beautiful, actually. Colorpulse actually makes me LIKE Autotune, which is something I normally want to kick in the balls with a soccer cleat.

You can download the song here.

Oh man, that was so incredible. Auto-tuned Carl Sagan does, indeed, sound like Kermit the Frog. Glad I’m not the only one who thought so.

I think I have to watch it again.

  2. andrea says:

I watch Carl Sagan every time i saw he was on. He must be the only person on the planet the everyone like to watch repeats of again and again. Brilliantly done and with the amazing Stephen Hawking.
    Love it.

  3. Branden says:

Why do I keep listening to this. It gets stuck in my head and I play it again.

  4. Nick says:

Reminds me of my favorite band, Mind.in.a.Box. Also, I love Carl Sagan. Double win!

  5. Nicci says:

Carl Sagan has been criticized for “dumbing down” science to appeal to people. But watching The Cosmos as a child, I was filled with a sense of wonder and a desire to learn more about the universe that never left me. Now, I’m working towards a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering. How many people can say they helped in part to inspire a girl to pursue science?

I haven’t watched his series in years, but this video brought back some great memories. Thanks for sharing.

  6. ModstRob says:

Carl Segan… Every time I watch his show I get strangely aroused. And I am not embarrassed in anyway to say this.

  7. That could be the most geeky thing I have seen in a decade, yet my loins began to tingle as it started. I can remember fondly sitting with my father at the ripe age of 9 or so and watching Cosmos re-runs on public television. It was one of his favorite shows, hence it became my favorite show, even though I didn’t understand why I needed to create a universe just to eat some pie, but it was cool.

Thanks a lot for the memory flood. I can’t help but smile the whole time I watch this. I’ve replayed it at least ten times since I saw it two days ago.

    Great post Chris

  8. Tboss29 says:

Holy crap!!! Its police academy all over again!

  9. @MulvaJones says:

I am now self aware, I’m going to start eating better and excersising more. I’m going to spend more time with my grandmother she doesn’t have much time left. Look out world here I come!

    O.M.G.

    1) autotune is evil, this is the only good use made of it EVER
    2) autotune sorta makes Carl sound like Kermit the Frog
    3) this should be “Carl Sagan’s Autotune Cosmos Feat. Stephen Hawking” for the SH cameo, which was HILARIOUS.
    4) i injured myself laughing
    5) the arrangement is IN-CRED-I-BLE.

  11. contessa says:

i thought this song was all kinds of cool. It pleases the geek in me.

  12. John says:

This made me well up the fourth time I watched it. I’m such a sad sap :) Wonderful video, thanks for spreading it, Chris!

  13. Deltus says:

That is pure win right there. I loves me some cosmology.

  14. Adron says:

This is exactly what I needed to start my day. Amusing, yet tranquil and uplifting. But where’s the T-Pain cameo? That’s obligatory, right?

  15. Brian Borth says:

It’s like Soundwave is singing me a lullaby.

  16. Dan Woods says:

    Chris,
This is possibly the BEST thing you’ve EVER turned me on to. I video DJ (VJ), and this is fucking brilliant! You rawk!

  17. Gomy28 says:

Where do this dood by is weed

  18. sfmd says:

Really made me wish Carl Sagan was still alive
    But the video is awesome

  19. BubbleTrousers says:

Revelationd = fail. Plain and simple.

  20. Sheri says:

    I love Carl Sagan!

  21. earth says:

that seriously scared the crap out of me… pretty trippy though :)

  22. Shawn says:

Have been watching Cosmos on Hulu with my husband, and we’ve made constant references to the “apple pie” line (there’s a lot of non sequiturs in Cosmos) — I yelped when I saw this! Amazing!

Also Sagan’s real voice sounds a lot like Obama — or at least Fred Armisen’s version of it.

  23. caleb says:

Who else really feels like watching Logan’s Run now?

    awesome song and video!

  24. Aaron says:

It’s pretty awesome, But I still like your country spin on the science world. What I’m saying is… If you and carl sagan got into a LOLcat narrated flame war, You’d pwn his a$$. (Insert obnoxious yet slightly entertaining smiley here!)

  25. Andrick says:

    awesome completely awesome …..
now do a dual between carl sagan and stephen hawking..

  26. Revelationd says:

Wow troll much Hannibal. I had no idea this was such a serious topic… well sir I bow to you for you clearly show your genius by interjecting your useless opinion into a simple conversation that had absolutely nothing to do with you but thank you for your input. Noted and filed away. Good day.

  27. Supahz says:

This is probably the best video I’ve seen in a year. Thank god for Twitter and the Nerdist.

  28. And the guy playing the butler is Potsie from “Happy Days,” from what I understand.

  29. Scott says:

Top stuff! I’ve been a Carl Sagan fan all my life and whilst not a fan of trance(?) I thought that was a really nice mix.

    Cheers for finding it!

  30. @RealKev says:

This does indeed rock the Casbah.

  31. Stephen says:

Awsome! And that’s not just the cold medication talking.

  32. victoria says:

sheer genius. completely synthetic and still more filled with natural talent than britney spears and lady gaga combined. with the sound off it looks like a nine inch nails video.

  33. Hannibal says:

Whatever, Revelationd. You got called out, fool.

  34. smoovebert says:

i am going to incorporate this into a dj set this friday. booom!

  35. Revelationd says:

absolutely nothing for some reason it just reminds me of the covers of Hubbard’s books all spacelike and what not

  36. Luis says:

Hey Revelationd, you are free to practice whatever you want, but what does Carl Sagan have to do with Scientology? Are you confusing him with L Ron Hubbard?

  37. Revelationd says:

i suddenly feel the urge to go practice scientology or something haha
