Back in June, it was announced that Titan Comics‘ new line of Doctor Who books would begin running in the coming months. The first ones to debut were the Tenth Doctor and Eleventh Doctor Books in July, with the third line, the Twelfth Doctor ongoing series, not coming out until the middle of the television season. Well guess what, folks! That time is now; or soon, to be more precise. The first issue of the Capaldi ongoing will be released next Wednesday, October 15th, and we have a look at a couple of pages.
The cover of the first issue, like those of the other two series, was painted by Alice X. Zhang, with future variant covers already announced. Penned by Eagle award-winning writer Robbie Morrison (Drowntown, The Authority, 2000AD, Nikolai Dante) and drawn by New York Times-bestselling artist Dave Taylor (Batman: Death by Design, 2000AD), the new ongoing series is said to put the Doctor in “his most challenging destination yet,” according to the press release. Because what else are they going to say, that it’s easily escapable and rather facile? Come on.
Unlike the previous two series, which are set in a period in between the television continuity and feature new companions, the Twelfth Doctor series will feature Capaldi’s Doctor with his onscreen cohort Clara Oswald (played by Jenna Coleman on the telly), and from the first few panels, we can see that they’re already tying it into the show with references to Danny Pink. From just two pages, it looks like Morrison is capturing the Twelfth Doctor’s already-trademark irreverence and penchant for not being friendly. Enjoy!
