Just when you thought there could be no more mutants added to the cast of next summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, we’ve got one more for you, and based on which mutant we’re talking about, he might be bringing a lot more mutants along with him. In his latest post to Instagram, director Bryan Singer has revealed a seemingly underground location with the tag “Shooting Caliban’s place of business.”
So just who is Caliban? He’s a member of the Morlocks, a group of characters whose mutations are so severe that unlike many of the X-Men, they can’t pass for regular humans, and therefore live underground in the sewers and subway tunnels beneath the city of New York. Caliban was an albino who had the ability to track other mutants across several miles (this particular ability was transferred to Morlock leader Callisto in X-Men: The Last Stand). Eventually, Caliban came under the sway of Apocalypse and became his horseman of Death and later Pestilence, which gives your a pretty big clue as to what his role will be in this movie. Eventually, Caliban escaped from under Apocalypse’s thumb and joined X-Force.
So who will be playing Caliban? Unknown at this point, although given his appearance in the comics, he could be an all-CGI creation. His appearance in the movie highly suggests we’ll also be seeing the rest of the Morlocks in some capacity as well, even if they’re only cameos.
With Angel and Caliban in the mix, that leaves two others to fill out Apocalypse’s four horsemen… Anyone have any guesses which mutants might fill those slots? Let us know in the comments below.
