Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel movie is just under three years away, but Carol Danvers may have been found. And if the initial report is true, Brie Larson could star in Captain Marvel as the title character!
Variety broke the story, and notes that Larson is apparently Marvel’s top choice for the role of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. The report adds that Larson is currently in talks with Marvel, but nothing is currently known about the status of those negotiations. Nerdist has reached out to Marvel Studios for confirmation, but we have yet to receive it.
If it’s true, Larson’s casting would continue Marvel’s trend of snapping up emerging movie stars for the MCU. Earlier this year, Larson won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Room, and she is starring in the upcoming Kong: Skull Island. We think she’d be a great Captain Marvel!
Why is Marvel casting the role now when the Captain Marvel movie doesn’t even have a director yet? The only reason that makes sense is that Marvel may use her in another movie before her solo adventure hits the big screen. Marvel used that tactic with Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, who had a major role in Captain America: Civil War before his own solo film.
Which film would be best suited for Captain Marvel’s debut? Given her connection to the alien Kree, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 could be a possibility. But Avengers: Infinity War could also be used to introduce Captain Marvel before she goes solo.
The Captain Marvel movie will be released on March 8, 2019.
