Big news for fans of cult horror anthology movie Trick ‘r Treat – There will soon be a Trick ‘r Treat 2 to create a marathon or portmanteau Halloween action.
The news comes whilst fans both in person and on the internet enjoyed a screening of the 2007 film written and directed by Michael Dougherty and a Q&A with the filmmaker and members of the cast moderated by Seth Green, streaming on the film’s and Legendary Pictures‘ official Facebook pages. Dougherty will be back to direct the second installment and X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer will be back to produce. No word yet on what the stories or cast will be, but it’s safe to assume that little Sam, the masked and monstrous mascot of the first movie, will be on hand to tie everything together.
For those who don’t know, Trick ‘r Treat was a small horror/comedy in the vein of Tales from the Crypt which wove together multiple stories all taking place on Halloween in the same quiet neighborhood. Ghosts, ghouls, murderers, and werewolves showed their nasty faces along with an all-star cast including Dylan Baker, Anna Paquin, Leslie Bibb, and Brian Cox. The movie had a small theatrical run but grew in popularity in the ensuing years through word of mouth and the DVD became a staple of October 31st movie nights. It’s become such a cult hit that the much-requested sequel is becoming a reality.
