Ohhhh man, you guys. Leave it to late on a Friday for one of the most exciting things (to me) of the week. Sony/MGM has released the first teaser for Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig’s hotly-anticipated follow-up to their monster great James Bond outing, Skyfall. A surprising turn right away is that it not only references the previous film, but also Craig’s first two Bond flicks, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. What movie are we talking about here? Didn’t you see the trailer up there? This is SPECTRE, friends!
This is, as you probably know, the 24th film in the 50+ year old film franchise and the first in decades to feature the private criminal terrorism-for-hire organization, SPECTRE, due in no small part to a lawsuit for the rights to the characters and themes created for the book and movie Thunderball back in 1965. As a result of this lawsuit, both the organization and its famous leader Ernst Stavro Blofeld became a big nyet nyet for the movies. But, that lawsuit is no more and SPECTRE has returned.
Now, I tell you that big long thing so I can say this… Christoph Waltz HAS to be Blofeld, right? Shadowy figure, head of the organization, sitting at a big desk… if he’s not Blofeld, they’re definitely trying to make us think he is. I’m sure he has a white cat on his lap that we just can’t see.
The trailer also shows Monica Bellucci and the return of Naomie Harris as Moneypenny and Jesper Christensen as Mr. White, the bad guy behind the bad guy in the first two Craig flicks. Throw in a tux and a sweet car and you have something that I can’t possibly be more jazzed about. His initials are B. JB.
Tell me what you thiiiiiiiiiink and if I’m off the mark about the Blofeld thing below!
