Back in 1989, Billy Dee Williams took a small role as D.A. Harvey Dent in Tim Burton‘s Batman movie with the hope that he’d go on to play Two-Face in a later sequel. But by the time Dent’s evil alter-ego appeared on screen, he was portrayed by Tommy Lee Jones in Batman Forever. But now, after 27 years, the man whose real name is William December Williams (HOW COOL IS THAT?!?!) is finally going to get his shot at Two-Face in the most unexpected way possible: in The LEGO Batman Movie!
The news was broken by none other than Chris McKay, the director of The LEGO Batman Movie. In a response to a fan on twitter, McKay unexpectedly revealed that Williams is playing Harvey Dent/Two-Face in the film. Over the years, Williams has mentioned how much he wanted to play Two-Face, before director Joel Schumacher went in a different direction and recast Jones in the part.
It’s an amazing gesture on McKay’s part, and we’re extremely eager to see what Williams does with the role, and if Two-Face will be based on his likeness. While we have little doubt that Williams would have killed it with a darker portrayal of Two-Face under Burton’s direction, we expect that his comedic skills will be called upon in this big screen outing.
We shouldn’t be too surprised that McKay is casting a wide net for his film. The previously announced LEGO Batman Movie figures and playsets have revealed that several minor villains from Batman’s history are also making a big comeback in this project. This latest announcement just makes us more excited about LEGO Batman’s new adventure!
