Bill Paxton to Direct Film Adaptation of Edgar Award Winning Novel THE BOTTOMS

Good news, genre fans! Deadline reports that noted actor and Frailty director Bill Paxton has signed on to direct the feature adaptation of the Edgar Award winning novel “The Bottoms.”

The novel, written by Joe Lansdale, is described by Deadline as “set in East Texas and follows an adolescent boy, his little sister, and their father who stumble across the body of a black woman who has been savagely mutilated and left to die in the bottom of the Sabine River. The townsfolk cover up the crime until the body of a white woman is found in similar circumstances and it falls to the family to unearth the truth.” Sounds awfully True Detective to me, in the best way possible.

The Bottoms reunites Paxton with Frailty screenwriter Brent Hanley. Paxton said, “Brent Hanley and I have been looking to team up again, since Frailty and when we read Joe’s book “The Bottoms,” we knew we had hit pay dirt. With a story and script this good, we have a chance to make a bonafide classic. I couldn’t be more excited!” Maybe Frailty co-star Matthew McConaughey will return to work with Paxton and Hanley too, and it will be a real Frailty reunion! We can hope…

According to Deadline, The Bottoms is scheduled to begin production later this year.
