Best Sitcom Performance In Television History, or The Value of Underacting

You don’t have to watch the entire episode of King of Queens above to see Patton Oswalt give the performance of his life. Just watch the opening sequence and carefully watch what he does, which is…

Nothing.

The noted comedian, actor, author, and patron of Walking the Room tweeted late Monday, “Forgot I did this. I stayed absolutely motionless in the opening scene from a King Of Queens episode. EERIE.” Also hilarious. He later responded to a question about why he did it and whether he was told to do it or if it was on a dare with, “I can’t remember. Might have been. Hmmm…”

Start at about :34 and watch until the 2:52 mark or so. The last part, spied from the kitchen at a distance, is especially brilliant.

That should NOT be as funny as it is.

  2. Gary Bravender says:

Man he really is 100% motionless It’s great example of how you focus on certain things and not others.Good for Patton intentional or not!!!

  3. Leslie says:

God, that’s hilarious. And, as opposed to JE Smith, I LOVE King of Queens.

  4. JE Smith says:

I freakin’ HATE “King of Queens,” but I’m glad it gave Patton a steady paycheck for a few years. That motionless bit is really odd and hilarious.

  5. Bill Main says:

Thank you for this. I woke my wife up laughing. That was a good start to the day.

  6. Andrew says:

That was the funniest thing I’ve seen all day. I couldn’t help laughing so hard that I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes, now. I especially love how other guests of the party are doing fake things silently in the background, and Patton just stands there like a powered-down robot…

  7. Jay says:

    Man, that was creeeeeeepy…

  8. Remster says:

That was friggin’ genius. If I were watching that it would have totally gone unnoticed, but I LOVE when someone points it out, ’cause then it’s like “OH SHIT, SECRET KNOWLEDGE CLUB HAS A NEW MEMBER!” And usually that member is me.
