Hold on to your raptors, folks, because Funko Pop! has done it again. With doe-eyed figures of everything from Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Daredevil, Agent Carter, and even Big Trouble in Little China, the toy company encompasses pretty much all of nerdy pop culture at this point, and it looks like they’ve made the very wise decision of adding Battlestar Galactica to their ranks.
Now before you get all salty Colonel Tigh on me, yes, Funko has released Battlestar Galactica figures before. Fans of the original 1978 series can collect “classic” Lt. Starbuck, Capt. Apollo, Commander Adama, and a Cylon Centurion. But for those of us who fell in love with the critically acclaimed, dare-I-say genius SyFy series from 2004, we have been woefully Funko Pop!-less for far too long. Luckily, Funko has heard our cries and announced a new BSG line coming early next year.
Soon, you too will be able to have a wee little Starbuck, Number Six, and modernized Cylon Centurian for your desk. And while you may fear a frakkin’ toaster decorating your office or bedroom, remember this: keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Especially if you have no idea who’s a Cylon or not. I mean, how do I know YOU’RE not a Cylon, dear reader? Oh, you’re not? SOUNDS LIKE CYLON TALK TO ME!
While Starbuck and Number Six are arguably two of the best characters in Ron Moore’s groundbreaking series, there are so many other characters we’d like to see get the Funko treatment eventually. And there are so many variants, too! There’s OG Captain Apollo, but also doughy and complacent Apollo, or even JFK hair lawyer Apollo. And what about Chief? Or Colonel “like a frakkin’ hard boiled egg” Tigh (pre- and post-eye patch)? We’d love to see a tiny version of the old man and Madam President finally getting their moments in the sun. We’d need a figure for Boomer AND Sharon, Anders before his ACTUAL moment in the sun, all the stages of Gaius Baltar’s insanity, the other Cylons, and even Hot Dog! Not Felix, though. Felix got what was coming to him.
Funko Pop! will release these frakkin’ awesome Battlestar Galactica figures in February 2016, which coincidentally is RIGHT before my birthday. So… you know. If I don’t get any, I think we all know why. *cough* Cylon *cough*
