The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim released nearly four years ago, and in that time span there have been both memes and mods aplenty. Everything ranging from co-op to ultimate madness has been thrown into the game and we seriously can’t get enough. While there have been plenty of visual mods for the title, Modder UniqueUses‘ most recent work has taken things to a whole other level with his work-in-progress shots of something he’s referring to as “Toon Skyrim.”
The shots (in the gallery below) are gorgeous to say the least, a pretty cool Pixar-esque spin on what Bethesda’s hit game would look like in a different art style. UniqueUses explains that he’s creating his own spin on and improving the potato texture mod.
“I’m basically making my own potato texture mod, with an enb and weather that goes with it to help hide that ugly lod. I like the potato texture style, but I think a lot of fixing up needs to be done for it to be playable. So I’m going to attempt to make things like signs and faces readable but still fit the potato style. For example, certain puzzles need to be seen, so I’m going to edit those.”
As you can see in the image at the top of the page as well as the rest that I’ve placed in the gallery below, the results are absolutely stunning. He further explained on Reddit, “This just uses very small textures (like that config forced skyrim to use) which I edited where I thought they could be improved. On top of that I am using ambient occlusion to make things look really good.”
The modder hasn’t shown much aside from the scenery, because he notes that things like faces haven’t been touched yet. He explains that the reason for this is that he “wanted to make sure it was worth the time first by getting opinions on the simple things like landscape.” It’s still a work in progress at this point, but you’ll be able to find it on Nexus Mods once it becomes available.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’d love to tackle a version of Skyrim that looks like this. What about you? Let us know in the comments below.
