Okay, Avatar fans, your ship (whether it be steam powered or sail) has come in. Dark Horse announced two new projects that you’ll want to get your bendy little hands on: First up, the well received Avatar: The Last Airbender comics and art book will be coming to Dark Horse Digital, Dark Horse’s proprietary digital comic reader. The Art of the Animated Series, The Lost Adventures, and The Promise got a warm reception from fans of the series and will now be available next to other Dark Horse titles like Hellboy and Mass Effect in their browser based reader, native iOS and Android apps.
The other new title, and the one we’re particularly excited about, is The Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series. The adventures of new Avatar Korra (voiced by Neil’s Puppet Dreams co-creator and The JV Club host Janet Varney) brought a sense of maturity and mystery to the much-loved series. Taking place seventy years after the adventures of Aang and company, a girl named Korra of the Southern Water Tribe is the new Avatar. Korra lives in a world plagued by crime and is encountering a growing anti-bending revolution. A fresh, stylized steampunk-inspired metropolis makes the rich backdrop for this world, and if you thought the show was pretty, you haven’t seen anything yet. Hundreds of pieces of “never-before-seen” art created during the development of Book One: Air are featured in a hardcover edition with commentary on the art from show creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.
Avatar: The Last Airbender comics are available on Dark Horse Digital now and The Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series – Book One: Air is in stores July 24th.
