Andy Samberg Returns to Host the SNL Season Finale

Andy Samberg is hosting the season finale of Saturday Night Live this Saturday on NBC and the promos for the episode are now available for your viewing pleasure.

Samberg is joined by cast favorite Kenan Thompson for his promos, and the two appear to be very happy to see each other. Example? Garden frolicking ensues. Samberg will be returning to the SNL stage fresh off of a Golden Globe win for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on Brooklyn 99, a fact that is also noted in the batch of promos touting the appearance.

While Samberg was best known on the show for the Digital Shorts that he and his The Lonely Island collective created, Samberg had a bunch of characters that I loved that I hope he brings back for the 39th season finale. “Mark Whalberg Talks To Transformers” could be an excellent use of his ridiculous impression, and Nicholas Cage is always a winner. I’d also like to show a little love for Samberg as Cathy, the dateless newspaper cartoon (ACK!), Larry the Goose, and let’s not forget “LASER CATS!!!” As fans of the sketch know, where there’s “Laser Cats,” there’s Bill Hader. Fingers crossed for a cameo! I would also expect a new Digital Short with appearances by Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone with maybe some Justin Timberlake or Adam Levine thrown in for good measure?

We’ll see for ourselves this weekend when the 39th season finale of Saturday Night Live, hosted by Andy Samberg with musical guest St. Vincent, airs on Saturday, May 17 on NBC.
