Come on, now, what would Course of the Force be without Jabba the Hutt’s sail barge?
Oh, yes, we did.
Course of the Force, the lightsaber relay from Santa Monica to San Diego Comic-Con International July 7-11 brought to you by Lucasfilm, Ltd., Nerdist Industries and Octagon and benefiting Make-a-Wish, will be led by a replica of Jabba’s sail barge from Return of the Jedi. It’s a 25-foot-long, 13-foot-tall replica carried on a flatbed truck as the lead vehicle in the relay, and hosts Chris Hardwick, Alison Haislip, and Ashley Eckstein will be using the barge as their home for their coverage of the event. You will not be able to miss it heading down the coast. I cannot wait to see the faces of people driving by, seeing this thing making its way along the road. Also, if you come to the events being held along the way, you’ll get a great view of it. Bring a camera.
And that’s not all. To celebrate this announcement, Epic Ink and Nerdist Industries are giving away one copy of the limited edition book “Star Wars: The Blueprints.” That’s… well, awesome would be one appropriate word to describe it. It has the original blueprints created for the filming of the Saga, from Jabba’s palace (where’s the garage for the sail barge?) to the Death Star (I wonder how many bathrooms they designed into that thing), with commentary from author J. W. Rinzler. So, you wanna win it? Yes, you do. Click here to enter; you’ll find the official rules there, too.
And even THAT’S not all. You wanna get a sneak peek at the sail barge? Just keep checking back at CourseoftheForce.com and you’ll find pictures there as we progress towards the relay itself. CourseoftheForce.com is also where you can sign up to be part of the relay; there are only 300 slots for runners, and you have to act now. It’s for a great cause (100% of runner proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish chapters of San Diego, Greater Los Angeles, and Orange County and the Inland Empire). Plus, sail barge. Gotta see the sail barge. I wonder if it’ll fit in a drive-thru?
