It wasn’t that long ago when women in the entertainment industry weren’t encouraged to be ambitious, and were encouraged to accept the idea that the world of music, film and television was basically a man’s world and always would be. But then a scrappy, ambitious young woman from Detroit came along in 1984, and told Dick Clark that her ambition was “to rule the world.” And for the better part of the next two decades, Madonna did just that, selling more albums worldwide that any other artist not named Elvis, Michael Jackson or The Beatles. At the same time, the world of comedy was pretty much just as sexist, and unless your name was Joan Rivers, you were pretty much shut out of the comedy boy’s club.
Now the pop world has changed, as almost all the highest selling acts are women, many of whom paid tribute to the woman who helped pave the way for them (i.e., in the Queen of Pop’s latest video “Bitch, I’m Madonna,” including Beyonce, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry). The world of comedy has opened up too, with the biggest names in comedy right now arguably being Melissa McCarthy and Amy Schumer. And since Madonna respects other women with talent and ambition, it’s no surprise that she’s asked Schumer to be her opening act for three of her New York dates for her upcoming Rebel Heart tour starting this fall. Schumer tweeted the announcement that’s she’d be joining Madonna by showing an adorable video of herself as a little girl singing “Like A Prayer”, showing just how far back she’s been a fangirl:

Amy Schumer hasn’t announced opening for Madonna on any further shows on the tour, but I suppose it’s not out of the question. What do we need to do to get you out here on West Coast Amy??
