AMERICAN GODS Will Debut at SXSW and More TV News

It’s almost time for the Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour, which means you’ll soon have TV news pouring into your eyes and ears from every direction. But! We still have some juicy television tidbits to address before the deluge. Read today’s TV-Cap to learn about American Gods making its debut, to find out about a Charmed reboot, to learn the status of Girl Meets World, and more.

World Premiere. SXSW isn’t too far in the future. The festival takes place from March 10-19. Some of the schedule’s been announced including, wait for it, the world premiere of Starz’s adaptation of American Gods. Is it worth going to SXSW just to attempt to gain access the premiere? That’s a decision only you can make. See the SXSW schedule so far at Deadline.

A World of Heroes. You and me, we’re just ordinary people. Well, at least compared to the likes of superheroes. That’s the premise behind NBC’s Powerless. There’s a trailer for the comedy set in the world of DC Comics, and it’s all about meeting the everyday Emily Locke and her newly acquired job at Wayne Security. I’m liking the humor I’m seeing. Miniseries Magic. Anytime I see comments from Bryan Fuller about Hannibal, I very much get the impression he’d pick back up with the series again in a heartbeat. He really wants to do another season or miniseries to adapt The Silence of the Lambs, and he hasn’t given up all hope yet. He recently told Shock Waves Podcast: “There’s a lot of interesting nooks and crannies to explore in a television series. I hope we get to tell the story. I think, ideally for the cast, it would be as a miniseries, here and there. Let’s do six to eight episodes of that, and six to eight episodes over here. And do it as an irregular thing.” We can always hope. [ Slashfilm]

The End. It’s official. Disney has canceled Girl Meets World after three seasons. Aww. Read a letter from series star Rowan Blanchard about the news here. [ The Hollywood Reporter]

A Proper Poem. Some fans weren’t, well, on board with the Sherlock series four premiere. A critic at The Guardian said the opener had too much of a James Bond vibe. Series co-creator and Mycroft actor Mark Gatiss responded to the comments in a unique form: with a poem. Read Gatiss’ verse at The Guardian. [ TVLine]

An Artful Tease. A continuation of the Disney film Tangled is coming to the Disney Channel with Tangled: The Series. We’ve seen some images from the upcoming animated show and a further look should be coming Friday. Keep an eye out!

That’s a Twist. Netflix’s comedy Santa Clarita Diet is packing a punch. Star Drew Barrymore spoke with USA Today about the show, debuting February 3, and revealed her character Sheila undergoes a dramatic change: she becomes a zombie. Sheila’s husband is played by Timothy Olyphant; you can imagine the marital problems and work issues (they’re both realtors) that ensue with such a complication. [ IGN]

Answers. Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defender left things with a cliffhanger at the end of season one, but you’ll have answers soon. The second season of the animated series will be here on January 20. Yay! And hey, we have a trailer that looks thrilling. [ Nerdist]

Casting Spells. The CW is hoping to find magic with a reboot of Charmed. Yep. They’re looking to bring back the show about the Halliwell sisters with the same team responsible for Jane the Virgin. I mean, The CW does need some more supernatural series to fill the spot of The Vampire Diaries, right? Read all the details we have about the reboot here at Nerdist.

Would you want a Silence of the Lamb miniseries? Head to the comments and tell me your thoughts on that and anything else in today’s TV-Cap.
