If you look back across the landscape of film history, you’ll find an impressive line-up of women who don’t shy away from fights. Are there enough of them? No. Not even close. But we should appreciate and remember the Princess Leias, the Sarah Connors, and the Black Widows. Clara Darko’s “Action Women Movie Montage” does just that. She’s sliced together a tribute to her favorite female action heroes, and it’s over two minutes of well-edited punches, kicks, and stabs. Don’t take my word for it, look:
I wish the montage went on for hours. I appreciate how it isn’t just a string of fights cut one after the other. Darko’s created a narrative by leading from training and prep into sword fights into punches into kicks – you get the idea. She clearly put a lot of work into making the scenes flow into each other.
Darko featured characters from 61 films. She gave herself a few limitations: No animated films and no characters with superpowers. She includes a list of movies she wanted to included but didn’t for editing reasons and movies she left out intentionally.
Need more montage goodness? Darko’s collection on Vimeo can keep you busy for a couple of hours. She’s edited together everything from rain scenes in films, to recaps of seasons of Game of Thrones, to a dramatic look at femme fatales in 70 different films. Watch:
